Cook, director of the Population Reference Bureau ... made an on-the-scene
study in Greece, Egypt, India, China and Japan.  Some of his observations
... India "now maintains a precarious balance at the edge of famine and
must find some way to reduce her birth rate before modern medicine and
technology further reduce her death rate and cause a virtual population
explosion."
