The U.S. Army Missile Command (my employer) is full of these
backronyms --
PATRIOT Missile: Phased Array Tracking Radar Intercept On Target
ATACMS Missile: ("Attack 'ems") Army Tactical Missile System
BAT Submunition:  Brilliant AnTiarmor Submunition (this one is
awkward, but was contrived because the sensor on the BAT is an
acoustic one, like the mammal).
HAWK Missile:  Homing All the Way Killer

and the other services:
HARM  High speed Anti Radiation Missile
ALARM   Air Launched Anti Radiation Missile
