"Different strokes for different folks"

I haven't read the whole thread on _different strokes for different
folks_. However, soon after I began competitive canoeing in 1970, I heard
experienced racers using the expression "different strokes for different
folks" applied to the new and somewhat controversial (or nontraditional)
styles of canoe paddling that were evolving about then. It was often a
way of ending a discussion about the attributes of one style as apposed to
another. Several of these styles were described in a manual for canoe
coaches by a Hungarian (?) by the name of Granek (Sp?). To my
recollection, I do not recall him using the expression.

Regards,
David
