Wow. Monster flashback here. I also attended a very rural (and completely
white) elementary school from '71 to '77, 20 miles southwest of Flint MI)

My dim recollection is that there were two possible finishing couplets,
one with "in the hole" and one with "break the gate" -- but I have
absolutely no recollection of what those lines were rhymed with. I'm
completely positive about the "on the side" though.
