Learning by osmosis is old.  I can't recall if I heard
it specifically when I was an undergrad in the 60's,
but my wife and I both still use it when we see
someone asleep with their head on a book, asleep in a
library, or any similar situation.

Indiana cheese toasty, similar to cheesy toasty,
phraseology for toasted cheese sandwich my daughter
picked up in England last year.
