Here is what we say about our minor in linguistics:

"The purpose of the minor in linguistics in (1) to contribute to
students' liberal education by allowing them to investigate the nature,
acquisition, and function of human lanague, especially its history,
structure, and role in society: and (2) to prepare thme for careers in
which language is of central importance, including careers in education,
law, communications, foreign language, translation, journalism,
technical writing, psychology, anthropology, and speech pathology."

The description is a bit overstated, but the fields of law, technical
writing, translation, and speech pathology are all real viable options
for students with training in linguistics.
