dialects in movies

The Harder They Come is one of my favorite movies. I've seen it dozens
of times. But it's always seemed to me that the subtitles are supplied
only in those cases in which the dialogue would have been understood in
any case: "Me stahp chase Ivan. Me staht chase *you*!" Bockside! ;-)
