This has been in the eggcorn database for a while, but a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol has just pointed out (on the Fox News Channel) that the outcomes of hot pursuits "run the gambit" from violence to peaceable surrender.

Naturally, Google reveals over 10,000 hits for "run / runs / running / ran the gambit."
