Not common at all. And I'm a garden writer for the last thirty years or so.
The strange thing is that the one "common" name I have seen is chameleon
plant, and that doesn't appear in the list. It is, in fact, Houttouyniia
cordata 'Chameleon'. With the genus and species in italics and the "fancy"
name (that's what it's called) in single quotes. You folks don't know
prescriptivism until you've delt with botanical names.
