Larry,
     Perhaps you're right.   What made me think it might be drug related is
the line that follows : "Could we ever feel much finer".   Proximity of the two
lines...   does eating chicken make you feel so fine?   Or do air pockets?
I am though unaware of "chicken" as slang in relation to drugs.   Don't know.
 Thanks for your reflections.   Perhaps there's nothing to wonder about.
