"Strew" rhymes w/"sew" redux

Nobody's ever explained Ed Sullivan's "really big 'shoo,' "  either, though he  didn't really pronounce it exactly like "shoo / shoe."  It was more like / S y o u /.

Don't forget "shew," also inflected like "sew." G.B.Shaw still used this
spelling. Can't at the moment remember with certainty other XX Cent.
writers who did, but probably someone will.
