And found that it sometimes gets an extraneous "cubic" tacked on
(probably, as Lawrence Horn and Arnold Zwicky have already suggested to
indicate that it's a unit of volume).

Retrospectively, I imagine all the mysterious cubic acres are actually
acre-feet.
