It might be relevant that "vegetarian" itself seems to have undergone
the occasional eggcornish reanalysis to "veggietarian" (presumably
understood as 'one that eats only [or nothing meatier than]
veggies'): 378 raw google hits. That would certainly prompt the
-tarian parse you mention.
