Could this be "raffia" from 1751 antedates OED3 1882?

Imported by DAVID GAIRDNER from Montrose in Scotland . . . rafree and
plain bottle Snuff ...

[The typeface is unclear and may be set with a long "s" rather than
an "f", but "rasree" seems unlikely.  And the apposition with "plain
bottle" suggests a wrapped bottle.]
