aura/areola: eggcorn?

Back in the '50's and '60's, when I was a connoisseur of umliterature, I
often saw "aureola," but "aura" is a new one on me. Interestingly enough, an
authority of the day who discussed this misuse of "aureola" assumed that it
was based on "aurum" and not on "aura." You never know.
