Did anyone else note "... most _flaming_ independent of them all ..."?
This seems to match the OED Online's def.5:

5. Flagrant, glaring, monstrous. ? Obs.

whose latest cite dates to 1737. Also, don't phrases such as "flaming
asshole" show that this meaning isn't obsolete?
