Take vs Have

: I believe I have heard the query, from a coffee vendor, "How do you take
: it?" but "How do you want it?" would sound a lot more normal.

I've wondered about 'take vs. 'have,' especially with 'a bite.'
Do you take one or have one?

I have amused myself when I listen to others say 'take' in the context of
coffee, tea, etc, by mentally applying take's meaning 'to withstand' in
that context.
