One of my subscribers noted an article on the Safehaven site, whose
opening sentence reads "Much adieu was made this week about the U.S.
population crossing the 300 million mark on Tuesday, Oct. 17."

And, while we're on the subject, I mentioned in the WWWords newsletter
last weekend that Neal Stephenson's SF novel Snow Crash includes the line,
"She has passed the frisking with flying collars." This was surely a
mistake, but it's a surprisingly common one, with dozens of examples to be
found online.
