Daniel Schorr, during the "Week in Review" segment of NPR's Weekend
Edition Saturday, 9/9/06:

Notice that he [the President] didn't talk very much about
magnificent progress in Iraq, because that would be considered a
little ironic.

ok, there's an opposition here, but it's not between what the words
express and what the speaker conveys -- bush seems to believe that
the u.s. is making magnificent progress in iraq.  rather, it's
between what the words and the speaker mean, on the one hand, and
what the facts are (in dan schorr's opinion, and that of many others).
