Boy, Hidy (Boy, Howdy) (1918--WWI slang?)

I'm familiar with "Boy, howdy!" but took no notes on it, it being too "colloquial" for my taste.
But it is absolutely not widespread enough in WWI writings to be considered "WWI slang" in any way, except that it existed in 1918.
