Wikipedia on Jazz

        This is likely a reference to the Original Dixieland Jazz (or
Jass) Band, known to have been in existence at this time, or a similar
band.  The ODJB consisted of New Orleans musicians but received the jazz
name in Chicago.

Well, they aren't exactly "in" New Orleans, but ProQuest has "Band
Concert Today"  with "New Orleans Jazz" in Washington Post Aug 10, 1917.

Orleans Jazz Band"
