Red Ass (from East Texas?)

I've heard this occasionally since (IIRC) around 1980. Not particularly
from Texans. Mostly I've heard something like "That gives me the red ass" =
"That angers/annoys me". There is also synonymous "That burns my ass", I
suppose about the same as "That burns me up" which is surely old.
