Having been reminded of that phrase, I see Google finds it many times
for this year -- and I suspect one would find it quite often, perhaps
more than "acceptance speech", in the former years of
rough-and-tumble politics.

Perhaps the Times was taking a cue from Obama's talk of
reconciliation, of uniting the country, and being courteous to the losers.
