Q: Newspaper dating by EAN?

I had believed that when a newspaper had two dates -- e.g., From
April 5 to April 12, 1739 -- that EAN identified it by the first of
the two dates. And I have just confirmed that for this specific
issue -- it is obtained by selecting April 5 in the "Browse" page.

But today I find that the issue of The Boston Chronicle identified by
EAN as May 9, 1768, is "From Monday, May 2, to Monday, May 9, 1768".

Does anyone have a clue?
