I should have added that Lafayette is normally a three-syllable word that
gets stressed on the final syllable, which seems to induce secondary stress on
the first syllable, thus inhibiting schwa reduction. Cf. "lemonADE" "Lana JO"
vs. "Verona" "farina" (with schwa-reduction in first syllable).
