I'm presently trying "ogeechee", and trying to ignore the river in
Georgia. How about this? From
http://katiescarlettva.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
titled "Kate'sd Food". July 8, 2009, "A Dictionary of American
Cuisines: United States: Overview (In Progress), South / Native
Ingredients / fruit: "plum (chickasaw, ogeechee)"

The OED has under "lime, n.2" -- "Ogeechee lime, the sour tupelo,
Nyssa capitata, of which a conserve is made."

But this is the South (presumably associated with the river); and if
something traveled north would it include plum (lime seems at least
possible) in a N.Y. corn soup?
