Because the OED is covering up the American pronunciation of
"vayz"?  For this unrevised 2nd edition entry, only the British
pronunciation is given.  From the on-line OED:

"The pronunciation system used in revised material differs in some
respects from that used in the Second Edition. In addition, the
revised material includes not only British but also U.S. pronunciations."
