Sentence-initial "As well"

Perhaps the student thought the word with which he habitually began
his oral discourse was too colloquial, and decided to change to "As
well," from "Like,".

What's endemic amongst TV talkers is beginning a report with
"Well,".  (And did they all go to the same School of Oratorial Gesturing?)
