Assuming _jez_ = [dZEz], this a pronunciation that I had to unlearn.
That is, if this spelling is rare to unique, then it may be further
evidence that black musicians didn't call their music "jazz," at the
relevant date, given that [dZez] is still a common BE pronunciation of
"jazz," to this day.
I even had to unlearn pronouncing _daddy_ as [dEdI].
