Epistemic closure

On NPR today, probably "All Things Considered," David Brooks talked about "epistemic closure" in connection with the Republicans being blindsided by the election results. I believe he also described that term as an "information bias" and an "information cocoon." The term refers to a situation where the information you receive is biased.
