Pronunciation of "malware"

I wonder how many of us pronounce "mal" the same as "male" or "mail".
Also "pal" and "pale."
or "Sal" and "sail/sale"
That would be with short a (~mal, ~pal, ~sal) instead of long a
Tom Zurinskas, Conn 20 yrs, Tenn 3, NJ 33, now Fl 9.
