1966 _Hartford Courant_ 2 Feb. 21 (ProQuest Historical Newspapers)  The big rock 'n' roll groups such as "The Animals," "Herman's Hermits," "The Beatles," etc., have a name for those teen-age girls who hang around for hours awaiting a glimpse of their favorites.  The boys call their fervent fans "groupies."
