[Ads-l] Misused "but"?

In today's "Arlo and Janis", Arlo says: "The days will seem to get 
longer from today! Starting this week, the sun will set later! The 
days will get shorter until the solstice, but the sun will rise 
later!"  (He seems to be excited about it.)  But --

The reason the days will still be getting shorter is that the sun 
rises later by more than it sets later.  Therefore it's not "but" but 
"because"?
