The crucial example is in the second paragraph; I would expect virtually every instance of that sequence ("...substitute that for something else") to involve reversed "substitute" (the one that allows "substitute X for Y" to be substituted...er, replaced by "replace X with Y" with no change in meaning, as discussed here a while back).
