DARE has a nice map showing "berm" in the sense 'the shoulder of a road,' concentrated mainly in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and West Virginia, with scattered instances in the West. In the Great Lakes it also means the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street. Other senses are less dramatically regional.
