Especially with Afrikaners around perhaps even longer?  (At Oberllin, I don't give credence to the notion that the "Afrikan Heritage Center" is a place for anti-black racists to gather.)

This week's New Yorker mentions the "Afrikan Heritage Center" at
Oberlin College.

Ca1970, campus radicals liked to spell "America" as {Amerika} and even
{Amerikkka} to prove its innate Nazi Racism.

So {Afrikan} may not be the wisest choice - though I know it's been
around for a while.
