Adjectives in the prep. obj. slot are all over the place... as in "rabid"
in this sentence from Charles Blow about Trump's visit to the New York
Times:

"You don’t get a pat on the back for ratcheting down from rabid after
exploiting that very radicalism to your advantage."

(One might imagine a gauge of Trumpian behavior, with "rabid" at one end --
on the model of "fill it up to full," "running on empty," etc.)

In any case, Geoff Pullum once argued (when "because" won WOTY 2013) that
PREP + ADJ is unremarkable:
