April 1973

In a review of a production of a German play in England - the play is set at a Ziegfeld-style theater in the 1930s.

"The story takes place between the show stoppers, and I gather that this juxtapositino of glitz and grime is intended as some kind of political comment on the economic contrasts of the time . . . ."

The Observer (London), April 1, 1973, page 35.

Antedating of glitzy? Etymonline has it it 1966. Pepsi had an ad campaign for its new chocolate softdrink, Glitzy, in 1966, but it is a bit older.

"Such a pleasant relief to come upon a good taste - non-corny album cover in the sea of glitzy, nudie, precious, unimaginative LP sleeves . . ."
Dorothy Kilgallen's syndicated column, The Daily Journal (Vineland, New Jersey), May 22, 1964, page 12.
