Interviewing the police chief of Corpus Cristi TX, an NBC correspondent said to him, in an effusively complimentary tone, "You're the man behind the curtain here." That strikes me as an inappropriate allusion for a compliment!


Another inaccurate allusion is the popular phrase "follow the breadcrumbs":  In the German tale, the point was that the Hansel's breadcrumb trail could not be followed, since birds had eaten the crumbs.
