A late-twenty-ish, black, couple are arguing.

She: "... and you DON'T *work*!"

He  : "I DOES work!" [hesitates] "I DO work!" [hesitates] "I DOES work!"


I felt his pain. Sometimes, in extraordinary circumstances, it's not always
clear which lect to use. In this speaker's case, the question in his mind
is, "Is I'm jess argin wit my old lady or am I speaking to the United
States, on Jerry Springer?"
