Here is a "picker" in 1928. The term is enclosed in quotation marks,
but this "picker" seems to be acquiring antiques for personal use
instead of resale.

Another young matron whose colonial home is furnished in harmony with
the style of architecture, the fine old pieces showing madam's art as
a "picker" of antiques, fashioned a quaint sampler, using a dog and
cat as the principal motifs, which hangs over an odd small washstand
of cherry in her small daughter's room.

Here is an instance in 1941 of "antique picker" which may be the
precursor term for "picker".

Date: October 5, 1941

Newspaper Location: Cincinnati, Ohio

The man, who travelled around the country under the guise of 'Antique
Picker'--though 'Antique Burglar' would have come a lot closer to
covering his business activities--had dark eyes that roved around like
those of a weasel surveying a hen house.

I worked in the collectibles field in high school (1970s),was at the Nashville Flea Market every month, haunted antiques malls and stores, and knew and worked with many antiques dealers. I never heard "picker" in this sense until ca. 2010, when the show came on .

For years, before and after graduating at East Washington High School, he rang door bells in Washington, and rummaged through attics and barns for glass, china, furniture, books and anything that might be salable."
