[Ads-l] Notable Quotations of the Year List Is Released

I believe the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines a "quotation" as something that is frequently repeated by others. I take a different approach when I collect and publish quotations, encompassing also passages of written or spoken text that I believe deserve to be repeated, because they are eloquent or insightful or humorous. In the context of my "notable quotations of the year" lists, I often pick texts that I think reveal a lot about our society or are important in some way regardless of whether they are frequently repeated.

So, yes, "Let's go, Brandon" is quoted a lot, but that doesn't necessarily get it onto my annual list.

Fred

I wouldn't challenge the idea that the Biden quote (or, generally, all of your selections, year in and year out) is "important or revealing of the spirit of the times".

It's just that the LGB quote is one that people actually, you know, quote.
