Abstract: The object of the investigation is the determination of the fatigue life of a multiple load path redundant structure consisting of geometrically similar members having statistically distributed initial strengths and subjected to randomized fatigue loads derived from an exponentially distributed gust spectrum. A modified linear damage rule and failure condition based on ultimate carrying capacity is being used. The method allows computation of a median 'fail-safe' fatigue life of the structure as well as the consecutive failure of individual members. Three aircraft structural materials, 7075-T6 and 2024-T4 aluminum as well as SAE 4340 steel have been investigated. Fatigue lives shorter than those calculated using the linear damage rule are obtained. (Author)
