OED cut v, 44. has “to cut one’s stick,” take one’s departure, be off, go (slang)… from 1825

Othello-Travestie... 1813,    (Act I p. 8) has Roderigo supposedly say, “Why not cut your stick?” with note b, which is taken up (p. 165) by supposed critical remarks:
