I was just asked what “Floral Friday” means by someone who was told flowers would be passed out (tomorrow?). I had no idea. It sounded like a social media custom.

1. Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_shirt#Aloha_Friday <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_shirt#Aloha_Friday>) says that Bill Foster, Sr., campaign pushing for Aloha Friday, on which people could wear Hawaiian (aloha) shirts to work. The custom began the following year and worked its way to the mainland US where it became Casual Friday.

2. Cultural Inclusions (https://tinyurl.com/59t6uzn7 <https://tinyurl.com/59t6uzn7>, 29 Oct 2020) says on YouTube that in the Torres Straits Islands, everyone wears floral clothing on Friday.

3. Hashtag Picker (https://hashtagpicker.com/hashtag-view?id=965 <https://hashtagpicker.com/hashtag-view?id=965>) says:

Friday has become the designated day to post floral and flower content under the hashtags #floralfriday and/or #flowerfriday. While it's fine to post flower related material on other days of the week, Friday is a specific day when those searching for flora content will be looking.

Texas MPHS celebrates five weeks of floral Friday fun
29 Nov 2016

A little bit of the tropics came to Texas recently with staff at the Multipurpose Health Service donning
floral shirts for some fun and fundraising.

“Ruth returned from a recent contract and she has been the impetus for us to take up a Torres Strait
tradition of Floral Friday for five weeks to provide something fun.

“This has involved wearing a floral shirt or outfit on Fridays. The staff embraced this with both hands
including the Mingoola Place residents who opted to dress in floral on Fridays also.
