1856 _Louisville [Ky.] Daily Courier_  (Dec. 24) 3: Their liquor was all
frozen up....They now sell "tangle-foot" by the chunk.

1858 _Louisville [Ky.] Daily Courier_ (Feb. 6) 1: Stiff, staving
drunk..with Tangle-foot.

1858 _Sugar Planter_ (Port Allen, La.)  (May 29) 2: The boat... was not to
land a any town or place where "tangle foot" can be obtained, between here
and Fort Smith.

1859 _Evening Star_ (Washington, D.C.) (Feb. 17) 1: Mr. Pritchard moved to
amend by adding, after the words "native wine," "native and
foreign busthead," "Cincinnati electricity," "rifle whisky," "tangle foot,"
"red eye," and "blue ruin."
