The OED's first use for the poker term "royal flush," dated 1868, is cited to W. B. Dick, Modern Pocket Hoyle.  In my experience, the W. B. Dick books have later printings that are misdated, giving the date of the first printing when the contents of the book have changed from the contents of the first printing.

The earliest appearance of "royal flush" in Newsapers.com is from the Austin American-Statesman, 28 Feb. 1873, page 3.
