My former Wayne State colleague Richard Grusin (now at Wisconsin-Milwaukee) is a
literary media specialist. He has been using the term premediation to refer to
the media discussing something bad that is likely to happen, perhaps
(in some kind of conspiratorial way) to 'soften us up' for the actual event or concept.
He's got a book and a couple of articles on it.
