In HDAS, Jon’s entry for _nimrod_ (‘a stupid or obnoxious person, JERK), while highlighting the role of Bugs re Elmer Fudd, has earlier cites from the 1930s, including one from Ben Hecht, “The Great Magoo”, “He’s in love with her…The same old Nimrod. Won’t let her alone for a second.”
