I've sent citations and links to Fred Shapiro off-list.

Citations to "ten gallon hat" seem incomplete to me without x-gallon hat, and its variants, as explained on the recent x-gallon hat thread.

to the historical record to the OED.  For some reason I have not been forwa=
rding material on "ten gallon hat" to the OED, but I now realize that I sho=
uld do this if there are antedatings of "ten gallon hat."  Can someone plea=
se forward to me the earliest citation that been unearthed for "ten gallon =
hat" ?
